- Between 30 and 60 people are struck by lightning in the UK each year. Of these, 3 to 6 will prove fatal.
- Lightning can travel at over 100,000 mph
- Lightning heats the air it travels through to temperatures as high as 30,000 degrees celsius - over 5 times hotter than the surface of the sun
- If you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning
